JDN...SW is software sry for the syntax....Windows NT will sooner or later be stable but time will only tell if UNIX will hold ground...yes the UNIX cos. are formidable...and MSFT will not have the same distribution advantages it holds in many products

the only consideration is that most known mfgs are introducing NT products...not as a replacement but to gear up for customers...so there is some evidence that customers are asking for NT supported products....that is one telling sign...thats why UNIX cos. have gotten no respect in mkt multiples lately

but getting back to RAPT....this is probably too simplistic but the technology of firewalls is not that difficult...every other day i get a newsalert on some odd ball co....i just think firewalls will become a standard product that must be offered with bundled offerings (e.g., like virex)...hence, the trend toward aligning oneself to other co. offering networking/remote access (Cisco), netmanagement software (HP Openview/TISX)...etc...i dont think standalone sales will do it anymore!

yes the product has to be good but i think many fit the bill...now its comes down to distribution...thats why MSFT will dominate with their firewall embedded in BAckOffice...i dont think they view it as a standalone investment project....but as an overall internet strategy which they will vacuum up all revenues from a comprehensive set of products and svc offerings...when u look at them or others bundling svcs, its tough (logistically) and costly to buy on standalone basis

cheers
