INTC--Intel's Open-Source Security Software Gains Worldwide Adoption Operating System, Hardware Vendors to Use CDSA Security Infrastructure BARCELONA, Spain--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 25, 2000--Multiple software and hardware vendors around the world are adopting CDSA (Common Data Security Architecture) software to add security features to their products, Intel Corporation announced today. Among these companies are operating system vendors, including major Linux vendors in the United States, Europe and Asia. The company also announced the pending availability of a 64-bit Linux version of CDSA that is performance-optimized for use with Intel's upcoming Itanium(TM) processor family.
``The combination of functionality, robustness and open source availability is making CDSA the most widely-used platform for the development of interoperable, security-enabled applications,'' said Craig Kinnie, vice president and director, Intel's Architecture Lab. ``Security on the Internet remains one of the most important issues facing the industry and CDSA is helping developers deliver the security capabilities needed to make their products more appealing.''
CDSA, developed by Intel's Architecture Lab, is a specification for the creation of interoperable, security-enabled, e-Business applications. CDSA allows applications to gain access to security services like encryption, biometrics, and the management of digital certificates and authorization credentials. Software vendors can use CDSA software to add those and other security capabilities to their software products, instead of developing those security components themselves. This can cut development costs and accelerate time to market.
Operating System Adoption
CDSA software is being adopted by a number of operating system vendors around the world. Compaq Computer will integrate it in its Tru64 Unix operating system, and Hewlett-Packard will add it to its HP-UX.
In addition to these operating systems, CDSA is being integrated into the leading Linux operating systems worldwide, including:

CDSA For Itanium Processor Family
Intel, Bull and Caldera have teamed up to develop a 64-bit version of CDSA for Linux that is performance-tuned for the upcoming Itanium processor family. This software will help enable high performance security solutions on Itanium processor-based systems. This version will be available for download under open source license by the end of October from Intel at developer.intel.com. 32-bit Windows(1) and Linux versions of the CDSA open source software are already available for download from the same Web site.
More Industry Support
Mytec, SAFLINK and Veridicom, leading suppliers of biometrics products, are building products that are compatible with CDSA. This will allow developers to incorporate biometrics-enhanced authentication devices, such as fingerprint readers and iris scanners, into their applications more easily. In addition, the Trusted European Security Infrastructure Initiative (TESI), a 14 member European consortium, has announced plans to create CDSA-based interoperable software to help European developers adopt the technology.
