That's a "Peter Principle"/rising to each individual's level of incompetence thing. A person can serve a company 30 years, start as a great mailroom clerk, elevate to be a great mailroom manager, eventually become Chief Operating Officer in that 30 years and completely drop the ball. When they screw up as COO, it becomes much less pertinent that they served under 7 CEOs, 5 of which were right-handed. Darn good mailroom clerk, though. "rather strange, that you pick on 1x4 year term of a person that has served 7 presidents. "
