Yeah....Mark got my own cynical juices coursing through my veins. Remember all that blather about how much more "mature" and "responsible" the drive industry had become? They really have learned the futility of price wars, haven't they? Not to worry, there will be survivors here to carry on the tradition of repeating dog-eat-dog history in the face of more new paradigms yet to come.

Actually, Maxtor is an interesting situation. The Korean market took another 4+% hit last night. Its a hell of a poor time to be bringing out a stock IPO in the US market in the disk sector. A convertible wouldn't do HEA much good even if they could structure one. It looks like a real cat fight is brewing between Maxtor and WDC in a desktop market that doesn't seem to want to grow of late. If WDC can hold ground for another six months to get through their big product transition (all hail, IBM) they could come out slugging. And it is true that the less money Maxtor can raise the better off WDC is. After all, they already got theirs, and so has just about everyone else that needs it but Maxtor.

>What's next,
IBM buys WDC forcing Seagate to buy Maxtor in self-defense. :o)

Are we having fun yet???

Best Regards......Tom
