The fact that they are classified as 'execs' doesn't mean they are wealthy. Maybe they simply needed the money for personal reasons. Building a house, investing in a company, re-financing their mortgages, etc etc.

Maybe gifts to children etc . College education ?

Any number of tax reasons both present and future. Maybe they have set it up so their tax hit at hypo 100 will be less than if they let it ride.

I'm sure we all have made financial decisions that made sense to us at that point in time, that would cause others to question our business sense. I didn't word that right but I think you'll get the drift.
