Gary,

Lets face it, MIS isn't going to ask you your preferences. Using WinFrame as only one example isn't going to convince MIS you need a Pentium PC. MIS isn't going to care that Pentium PC's are getting cheaper, they are going to look at what APP's need to be run for the Majority of users. We've got a lot of fully loaded Pentium doorstops in my building already, total waste of resources since they are used for e-mail and little else. Not many people can justify a powerful PC for the average mundane office tasks they do. MIS also wants a standard configuration so it doesn't have to support many platforms. At my site, if you alter the std. config on your main workstation the support people will not touch it. Not a problem for me, but lots of people can't even edit their system files to fix problems. As long as it has a drive on it there is a risk of virus or some creative soul using a tool that brings the LAN down. I'll ask the question again, what app do you run to do your job that can't be run from the server ?

Maurice
