Can somebody explain why Cal is in the Atlantic Coast Conference?
With the breakup of the old Pac12, the ACC was the only power conference available. Most stability and best TV deal...

However a new Pac12 is coming online with 8 football teams (new math?) And Gonzaga for basketball making 9 hoop teams, both men's and women's divisions)

I suspect when the ACC deal ends Cal and Stanfurd (sic) will see what the "Pac12" has to offer.

The Pac-12 is expanding to nine members, including Texas State, for the 2026-2027 season, with a total of eight football-playing members. The new league's foundational members will be Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Oregon State, San Diego State, Utah State, Washington State, and Texas State. This marks a new era for the conference, with official launch planned for July 1, 2026, after the departure of most of its previous members.
