My other, less well-correlated theory is that the wood floor advocates are not so bothered by walking barefoot on f'f'f'f'COLD floors. Me, I hate cold, and wall-to-wall is one of my favorite things. The idea of driving over a wet rug to squeej it is appealing however. Some folkshereabouts have dually pickups with WIDE single tires fitted in those pouchy wheelwells - two passes by one of those would wring out an 8x12.
