I worry about the kids I teach. Their concentrations are impaired. Some students aren't allowed technology, or their parents limit it- those kids tend to be a lot smarter and better able to focus on everything from reading and writing to problem solving. I have students who literally seem to need to touch their phones constantly. Phones aren't allowed out in class, unless I've designed a lesson to use them, but there are kids who hide them in their clothing and are constantly fondling them. It would be funny if it didn't represent a serious impairment. I guess we have teachers on campus who also look at their electronics when they are supposed to be teaching- I leave my phone in my car or in a desk drawer- to set a good example for the students. You can't very well try to wean them off their phones if you set a bad example for them.
