I doubt that 65% of those folks are going to strap on a bomb & go willingly off to their 72 Virginians.

Deterrence only applies to Governments, and only very ineffectively to individuals within Governments. The terrorists know that they will find no safe haven. That doesn’t meant they will stop attacking us. It means they will probably disperse and take refuge in places where our military can’t go after them. They know we’ll attack if they do. That won’t deter their attacks, it will just suggest to them that they should be elsewhere when the response comes. They don’t care what price is paid, as long as they can arrange for somebody else to pay it.

We should always remember that the terrorists want to draw a large scale response from us. The more Arab land we occupy and the more Muslims we kill, the happier the terrorists will be. That’s what they thrive on.
Large-scale military force is a weapon of very limited utility in a war on terrorism. Only a fool would rely on it.

We should still worry about Al Qaeda. Far more, though, we should worry about the group we haven’t heard of yet. You can bet your last peso that they are out there, and that our actions to date have only encouraged them.
