If the Euro were the currency of an entity that grew organically because of common interest, a common history, or something else that united nations as disparate as Germany and Greece, it might have had a chance. But it is an artificial entity, made up of whole cloth. It is an empire without an emperor, a collection of palsied democracies. The whole thing reminds me of the Senate scenes from Star Wars.
