I see cause for concern, if not alarm.

Tea party movement goes to the very heart of the matter - living under limited government and seeing the Constitution as a set of rules, rather than subject to constant de facto changes. The movement is true American political conservatism, so far undiluted by secondary issues.

Simple conservatism which any person can understand and relate to is very scary to progressives - hence, the vitriolic hatred. They want to get tea party people into trying to "prove" that they are not Nazis, not racists, not homophobes -- they want them to talk about anything BUT their core issues. Indeed, being able to stay focused on those issues will determine how much impact this movement may have in the future.
