Abby: The actual way this DOJ thing got started was when Netscape hired Judge Robert Heron Bork. He had the knowledge and influence to get this lawsuit started, then the states, smelling free money, jumped on the band wagon. The state I live in withdrew after getting extreme pressure from the residents. As long as MSFT has excellent earnings the stock will hold up and do well, and since many, many, people and pension funds are invested in this popular stock I don't expect a company killing decision from the DOJ, after all, the government officials would be voted out of office.
