Compared to what white the folks have done to Africa, I doubt that China can do worse.

And yes, both sides are going to secure as good of a deal for themselves as they can, and the power disparity will decide who gets the upper hand.

That said, Chinese vocabulary (and business practices) distinguish between what is a temporary arrangement and what is a long term strategic partnership. Chinese mindset is naturally more strategic than the western outlook. And I think that China sees Africa as a strategic resource rather than a tactical one.

Given that China is unlikely to militarily invade Africa (something that I cannot say about the Europeans), they are more likely to treat Africa fair enough to avoid straining the relationships.
