Yep, Intolerance was his answer to the criticism that greeted BON, which documented the 500,000 man march of the KKK on Washington. Few realized that the million man march was an answer to that. Griff was not insensitive to being a witness to that history, or extolling it narratively whilst the infamy of the brotherhood was being rolled out, but thot that the event should speak for itself and to take a moral stance when the point was objectivity, would be a tad preachy. Few saw it that way and he was excorciated. When Intolerance broke the bank his production company faded and MGM took center stage with the talkies and even more grandiose DeMillean affairs. DeMille learned/was inspired from/by Intolerance as has every crane shooting, extra packing, subplotted, carousel camera, flashback sequencing, steadicam using, blockbuster editing director since then. First Griffiths, then DeMille, then Peckinpah, Fellini, De Laurentis, Eastwood, Wu, and Tarantino.
