I can't respond about the Compaq 2750 in particular, but I swap CD and DVD drives out all the time. It's very simple, more so for notebooks than desktops. Generally there's a small slide under the laptop where the drive is inserted, generally identified by horizontal ridges to give the fingers more traction. Just slide the lever, pull the old drive out and slide the new one in. Of course there are variations such as a latch that fits over the front of the drive and sometimes you may have to remove a small screw.

Hope this helps.
