Yes, the "Doors of Perception" is a book, written by Aldous Huxley in 1954, about his experiences ingesting the hallucinogenic cactus called peyote. By using that quote with Mr. D, I was trying to make a point that things aren't always what they seem...

There are numerous other ways of achieving altered states of consciousness besides drugs. You might want to read the book "Stoned Free: How to get high without drugs", 1995, Patrick Wells and Douglas Rushkoff. I could post more about a high tech method I'm using for altering my brain wave patterns, but I can guess the response of this group...
