Date: 30/09/98 London: Mr Rupert Murdoch's British Sky Broadcasting is facing a challenge from rivals as Britain gears up this week for the start of digital TV. BSkyB, 40 per cent owned by News Corp, will hit the market first with Thursday's launch of a 140-channel service. But terrestrial TV operator ON Digital is to launch the world's first aerial-delivered pay-TV service on November 15. ON Digital, owned by the commercial TV companies Carlton and Granada, said it would offer a 30-channel digital service, with a basic six-channel package for £7.99 ($22.88) a month. more............................... smh.com.au
