This company couldn't be more representative of the average company in the US.....as it sells to both consumer and industrial markets. Even so, it had a blockbuster quarter. Because it sells worldwide, one could say the good quarter was due to the global economy. However, sales in the Americas were up the most of any geographic area it serves. I don't think a recession is quite ready for prime time.

Nordson 4th-Quarter Income Rises 6.7 Percent, Acquisitions Help Lift Sales 20 Percent

WESTLAKE, Ohio (AP) -- Nordson Corp., which makes precision dispensing equipment, said Tuesday its fiscal fourth-quarter profit rose 6.7 percent on the back of double-digit sales growth.
Net income for the quarter ended Oct. 31 rose to $29.6 million, or 87 cents per share, from $27.8 million, or 82 cents per share. The latest quarter includes a charge of 1 cent per share for short-term purchase accounting for acquired inventory. In the 2006 quarter, earnings from continuing operations totaled $29.5 million, or 87 cents per share.

On average, analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial forecast a quarterly profit of 80 cents per share.

Sales rose 20 percent to $290.8 million from $241.5 million. Nordson said acquisitions accounted for 11.6 percent of the sales increase and core volume added 4.4 percent, with the remainder coming from the effects of currency translation.

On a geographic basis, fourth-quarter sales volume increased 26.5 percent in the Americas, 22 percent in Japan, 16.4 percent in Asia Pacific, 15.9 percent in Europe and 11.9 percent in the United States.
