Totally agree that no monocausal explanation will suffice, but Greenspan's role is one to be mentioned. I don't agree with you that he is widely blamed as you say. Commentators have studiosly avoided blaming him, as have by far most political leaders.

Watch as this becomes the bin laden recession, just as the the 1990-91 one was wrongly termed the hussein recession.
Greenspan's role has to be considered, and fair treatment means seeing his flaws as well as his good points.
