JAKKS Pacific Acquires Stationery Licensing Rights to Upcoming `Spy Kids' Movie
MALIBU, Calif., Feb 7, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- JAKKS Pacific, Inc. (Nasdaq: JAKK chart, msgs) today announced that it has signed a licensing agreement with Dimension Films, a division of Miramax Film Corp., under which JAKKS' Flying Colors(R) division will develop and market products -- including memo pads, portfolio folders, theme books, and assignment books and binders -- for "Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams," the sequel to last year's successful "Spy Kids(TM)" movie.

"We see the agreement as another clear win for our Flying Colors division," said Jennifer Richmond, Vice President of Licensing, JAKKS Pacific. "Scheduled for release in August 2002, just in time for the back-to-school selling season, `Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams' promises to emulate the success of the original `Spy Kids' movie. The property provides an excellent platform for a line of themed stationery products for `Spy Kids' fans that will be distributed throughout the United States and Canada."

"JAKKS' Flying Colors division is a great addition to our licensing program for `Spy Kids 2.' We are very excited about the `Spy Kids' products which they will bring to the marketplace," added Michael Helfant, Senior Executive VP of Dimension Films.

In "Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams," Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara reprise their roles as Carmen and Juni, the well-adjusted and infinitely resourceful children of super-spies Gregorio and Ingrid Cortez (played by Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino). They embark on a mission to a mysterious island to retrieve the Transmooker device. This island, invisible to any radar or satellite, has the effect of disabling all power, which includes Carmen and Juni's precious gadgets. Additional information is available at www.spykids.com.
