Irvine, Calif. -- The Disk Products Division of Toshiba America Electronic Components Inc. now is shipping DVD-ROM kits for VARs and system integrators.
The kits include a Toshiba 4.8X SD-M1202 DVD-ROM drive, which reads all DVD software formats from 4.7-Gbyte software to dual-sided, dual-layered 17-Gbyte packages, as well as CD-ROMs at 32X speed.
Also included is the REALmagic Hollywood Plus DVD/MPEG-2 playback card from Sigma Designs Inc., Fremont, Calif.
The kits come bundled with Sigma Design's DVD Station software, which controls DVD playback by means of an on-screen interface that looks similar to a VCR. Also included is Sigma Designs' Star Trek: First Contact screen saver.
The kit was designed specifically for VARs and integrators, said Maciek Brzeski, Toshiba's vice president of marketing.
Unlike retail kits, it does not include games or other consumer items. Furthermore, because the Sigma Designs playback card works with any VGA controller, no high-end graphics card is included in the kit.
The DVD kit is shipping now to distributors, VARs and systems integrators with a suggested list price of $299.
