Dear Jeff: That 'image' that Jacob had of the angels ascending and descending Jacob's ladder was passed down to the present day church. The angels are 'messengers' between heaven and earth that take our 'prayers'i.e communications to God and return with Gods answers. I know that my views on this might floor you. You ask when we pray doesn't God receive our prayer instantly. Isn't God omnipresent. Of course He is but in Heb 13:2 we are cautioned not to forget to entertain strangers for some are angels unawares.

Angelic appearances are not commonplace in scripture but they are entrusted by God at key times in our lives to be there for us . That was one of those times for Jacob,: the very stone he laid his head on that night and later stood up as a memorial before God is said to have traveled to Jerusalem, then Ireland, then, Scotland and Edward had it transported to Westminster where it was placed under the chairs where the kings of England were to be crowned.

You see was it not an angel that removed the stone to the tomb where Christ was laid to rest: God was telling us there are certain things as men we cannot do. Well stones in the bible were so large that it took 'creatures' to move then from covering the well. There are certain things in the spiritual realm that require a heavenly creature to move from place.

I know not why you are meant to receive this message but God has a message embedded herein for you. If you know what it is please share it with us ; I will pray the Father to give you the discernment to decipher it .In Christ ....Gregor
