An interesting theory but I can think of a couple of counter examples: Korea was not conquered by the North and the Hundred Years war was not won by England (France perhaps didn't "win" it either though they did get back control of all of their land excepting the Channel Islands.)

Such examples where the theory holds true could mostly be put down to the fact that technology developed more quickly in the Northern hemisphere and in particular Northern Europe and later North America.
