The Washington Post is best for DC politics, the NY Times is best for the bigger picture. And the only time the NY Times has had to retract a major story was when they believed Cheney's office and Karl Rove about the WMD lies associated with Plamegate, outing a NOC list CIA agent during war-time to try and cover up the biggest lie since the Gulf Of Tonkin hoax which was used to start the Vietnam War.

Yet still the rightwing attacks our great newspapers. Why? Because they are not for a strong democracy, the rightwing is for a weak democracy lorded over by the corporate elite. Our FOunding Fathers insisted a strong independent press was critical to any strong democracy. That press they said must be able to take on and expoise any corrupt politicians including the president. In fact the FF's said that was the press's #1 job, as well as to keep the people educated with facts not partisan propaganda. The rightwing media, starting with Fox and Limbaugh feeds a lot of propaganda and not much fact. That is anti-American.
