Washington Redskins coach Joe Gibbs always told his players that competition brings out the best in everyone. So in response to Dino Rossi's announcement as a Senatorial candidate from the State of Washington, I say "welcome".
I've been up against tough competition most of my life. As a NFL player, I competed at the highest level and was part of two winning super bowl teams. As a farmer, I face a tough challenge every day, Mother Nature. I don't always win this match-up, but I never give up.
In farming, there is a small window of opportunity to get the crop planted and harvested. In 2010, our country has a small window of opportunity to regain our footing as the freest nation in the world. This objective cannot be brought about by one individual, one Senator, or one Congressman. Numerous changes need to be made in our bureaucratic line-up in order to bring our nation back to recognizing our highest political value -- individual liberty.
I have applied the principles of hard work, determination and dedication to my campaign by criss-crossing this great state and touching base with the people. My message has been Fiscal Responsibility, Government Accountability to "we the people", and National Security. All of this is achievable by applying and honoring the precepts of the Constitution of the United States. This was the "game plan" given to us by our Founding Fathers.
The people of Washington State have a choice. We now have a GOP established candidate, or a citizen statesman who is a part of the grassroots movement and wants to work shoulder-to-shoulder with the people. Even with this new addition to the race, I hope the team effort by all the declared candidates will work toward achieving the main goal - replacing Patty Murray, who is a contributor to our nation's current problems.
