I have heard repeatedly before that China manipulates the RMB and have often wondered, with the RMB pegged to the US$, isn't it damn hard to manipulate?

Now the RMB is no longer pegged to the dollar but to a mystery basket of currencies of unknown mix, would it not be easier of China's CB to not only manipulate the RMB against the dollar but also all the currencies of China's other trading partners?

I believe China is still running deficits against Japan and Korea. Pumping up the yen and the won would not be too bad an idea. In the mean time, China just got a 2% discount on oil and other raw materials that are denominated in US$.

A question for Schumer: is this why you are pushing so hard for China to revalue?
