About monopolies---a lesson from the 19th Century Just being a monopoly isn't enough to make money all the time. There has to be a market for your products and you have to control production. That means you have to be able to shut down the plant on occasion to bring supply and demand into balance. If you overproduce you saturate the market. When that happens you can't make money even if you control the market. ITs the glut not the competition that is the danger for INTC.
