Joan, Admitted and now deleted? Or omitted and now admitted? Was it the one about "if we don't speak up"? With that i heartily agree-- unless one is dealing with a lunatic and the speaking up only reinforces his concept of himself as the appointed one.
I do think if we ignore Emile for a minute, that this is an interesting question about SI. How much speaking up should we do when there is so much miscommunication, so many premature conclusions and assumptions, so little background. Would it be better to take things to PM? Is it best to just ignore someone offensive- either as an individual or as a group? Or is public dressing down necessary? Is what happens here important or is it just a place to prove our own points to ourselves? And when should SI Bob be brought into a situation?
I was recently involved with that silly thing with - oh dear--- I've already forgotten his name--- but he thought LLR and I were making fun of him and we really weren't, neither of us having any stomach at all for nastiness of any sort, but the more we tried to extricate, the worse it got and the more we offended. It was the strangest feeling. Then THomas White, who is my dear friend, stepped in and while at the time I was furious with him for not waving a sword in my defense, he managed to give that person an out, smoothing the ruffled fur.
I guess if I thought there was teeth in any of this, I would be more inclined to fight harder, object more vociferously. I do wonder what the 3D Emile does, what harm he inflicts, or is he just someone who spews forth here? How serious is any of this? Dunno. |
