The UK is no doubt closer -- but ask yourself seriously, is the UK's global economic situation really akin to our own?

Is anyone else's closer?
Take a good hard look at unemployment in the UK.
Far lower than here.
Why?
Huge numbers of government jobs.
Perhaps Regli or Pearly Button can find some numbers for us.
Even with that low unemployment and huge govt budget UK consumer spending has fallen like a rock, although it did pick up last month. Things will not go in a straight line.

The UK might have a harder time than the US, especially if we can end this nightmare that is called Iraq. On the surface, UK spending should hold up better because of low unemployment. The fact that it hasn't might be telling.

All in all an interesting question.
I will ask one of my guys on the FOOL what you asked me.
