Tim asked: "To j and all: does ADSL solve the bandwidth bottleneck problems referred to in the press release? ba.com;

The answer to your question is a qualified "yes." Simply put, the
various broadband access methods attempt to move internet/data traffic
off the PSTN (public switch tele network) and on to dedicated data
networks.

I do not remember the exact post, but several weeks ago I compared/contrasted BBTK's architecture with ADSL's architecture (on
the BBTK thread). I confirmed the accuracy of the post by taking your
advice and calling Rick. (You may want to review that post and/or call Rick)

To alleviate congestition in the switched network, each method (BBTK
and ADSL) "splits" the voice traffic from the data/video streams
BEFORE they enter the switched network. I will not go into the
details of how it is done. There are lots of resources out there.
You may want to visit the Telechoice and the ADSL forum sites for
starters. (Focus on "POTs splitters")

If you are not affraid of Technical documents. I would recommend:
Kimmo K. Saarela's site at:

cs.tut.fi

You may find this particula page particularly useful as it deals
with ADSL's "system architecture":

cs.tut.fi

If you go to Alta Vista and do a search on "ADSL", I am sure you
will find several other good sources. If you are a glutten for
punishment, you may want to read the last several months of posts
here. There are some good overviews.

Finally if you get Network World, you may want to check out the OpEd on the last page of this weeks issue. It deals almost entirely with the BA paper you referenced.

Cheers,
Daniel
