...why the delay in prosecuting him? Is the Bush Administration that stupid they do not know what to do? And they want to run the country for four more years where there are problems they are required to address which are more complex than this?


Did it ever dawn on you that maybe the Justice Department people don't think that it is that big a deal? I doubt whether anyone thinks that Berger was going to turn the documents over to a foreign government.

The crime is not a complex "problem." Berger has admitted taking the documents. He also admits that he apparently threw some of them away "accidently." The complex issue is what do you do about it. I seriously doubt that anyone in the Bush administration wants to nail him. I suspect that he will get a free pass. However, if the documents were used for political purposes, which I doubt, then he probably doesn't deserve that free pass.

Berger has certainly screwed up his job opportunities. While I suspect that Richard Holbrooke will end up as the Secretary of State on the off chance that Kerry actually gets elected, Berger was certainly in the running.
