AFTER THE BELL - C-Cube<CUBE.O>falls in quiet day

NEW YORK, Oct 12 (Reuters) - Shares of C-Cube Microsystems Inc., which makes software for digital video networking, fell in after-hours trading Monday after the company's strong earnings report.

The shares traded at 16-1/4 on the Instinet electronic trading system, off 1/4 from its close on Nasdaq. The company said it had a third quarter profit of $13.0 million or $0.28 per share, excluding a $0.06 per share extraordinary gain, versus $9.7 million or $0.25 in the year-ago period.

The results of the Milpitas, Calif-based firm surpassed Wall Street expectations of $0.27 per share, according to First Call Corp.
