Ratz...Australia Q1 Business Confidence, Conditions Fall - NAB 4/28/2008 10:22:36 PM Business confidence in Australia declined to its lowest level in seven years in the last quarter, according to survey results released by the National Australia Bank (NAB). The Bank's business confidence index dropped 10 points to a reading of minus-4 for the three months ending in March. The accompanying business conditions index also declined, falling six points from the previous quarter. The NAB said the drop was attributed to a sharp decline in consumer demand. The bank said core inflation is expected to remain at around 4.0 per cent in 2008 and is likely to remain outside of the Reserve Bank of Australia's 2 to 3 per cent target range until early 2009. Indicators of business trading, profitability and employment showed weakness in the first quarter, but the investment outlook remained robust, NAB said.
