Maybe there is something screwed up, but it could reasonably be said to be on the Canadian side.

but for some folks on fixed income that have to choose between drugs or food it seems rather unfair.

So someone should never have to make that choice no matter how expensive the drug or treatment?

If your response is something like "make it cheaper", then consider "how expensive" to be the resources, development costs and such, to develop, test, produce, market, distribute, and apply the drug, or treatment service or medical device, rather then the specific price tag, reducing the latter doesn't reduce the former.
