Hitachi, NEC Join South Koreans In Cutting Back DRAM Production Jack Robertson Two Japanese chip makers are joining Samsung and Hyundai in temporarily shutting down DRAM fabs this summer in hopes of trimming the massive oversupply that's driving down prices. Hitachi Ltd. has confirmed that it is closing its main Naka fab for nine days. And NEC Corp. reportedly is planning to close an unspecified number of fabs for one week.
