FREMONT, Calif. (Dow Jones)--IBM Canada selected a PC decoder card using Sigma Designs Inc.'s (SIGM) EM8300 REALmagic DVD/ MPEG - 2 decoder chip for use in models of its Ambra desktop personal computers.

In a press release Wednesday, Sigma said the chip will provide DVD playback in Ambra models, which will be launched this week in IBM's Home Computing stores in Canada.

Sigma Designs makes MPEG -based multimedia products.

IBM Canada is a unit of International Business Machines Corp. (IBM).
