NT has been out for a while on multiple platforms but has started to take off only after the widespread availability of the P-Pros. The implications are tough times ahead for the traditional server guys.
SGI and DEC will be the first to face bad times (as they already appear to be doing). SUNW is the strongest of the lot but expect it to come under pressure too as Compaq, Dell and other PC makers start bringing PC economies and prices to their traditional strongholds,

Close but no cigar -- he said confidently, like he alone had all the answers. I think the death sentence for HP, Sun and IBM workstations is the combined effect of Pentium, NT 4.0 and accompanying software. NT is the odds-on favorite as the dominant operating system and Intel compatible hardware drivers almost give them a lock on the bare metal side of the equation. I just would not be breaking out the champagne just yet, there are some pretty snappy servers out there that could gain a foothold. But like I said, I like Intel anywhere under $200.
