Re: Pinnacle Optical hard drive

2.6 gig transfer rate 4.3 per second rewritable optical drive began shipping June 26th to a backlog of orders, 4.6 gig coming out 4th quarter with a seek time of 6ms.Seen the movie eraser yet? Check out PNCL it will be the new medium for mass storage.

I guess we'll just have to imagine it (even for the 2.6 GB), since your numbers don't agree with the ones on Pinnacle's web pages:

Vertex 2.6 GB OHD Access time 17 ms (Seek time 1/3 stroke 19 ms)

They don't have any data on the to-be-announced 4.6 GB drives.

Drive price ~ $1500, cartridge list price $200 (data from Insight)

Slower than Jaz, 2X price, different market. No problem.
