Well yes, Frank. That is exactly the point that I was trying to make. I think parts of the Canadian press have done a commendable job in covering this issue.

I was trying to say that indeed it is odd to see this, given that the Canadian press puts itself in the corruptible position of taking plane rides, and I would assume, other goodies from companies. Again, their aggressive coverage of Corel raises the question: Are they taking a lot of free plane rides from Bill Gates? I do not know. And I am not saying they are. But if the basic foundation is corruption (accepting money from the people you cover), then any slant on any article might be tracable back to the person or company that gains most from that slant.

Again I am no expert in the Canadian business press. But you have to admit it is extremely inappropriate for journalists to accept free plane rides from the people they cover. I think the basic rule is American journalism is: Don't accept anything you can't eat or drink in one sitting.

As for the American press, there would naturally be less interest in covering potential insider trading at Corel because Corel remains a rather insignificant, provincial, foreign company. (There are few American brokerages who cover it.) For better or worse, newspapers tend to cover what is close to home.

How many Canadian papers wrote about Howard Stern, a phenomenon here for over 15 years, before he started broadcasting his slime into Canada?

Happy Investing!
