This is why this election is so profound concerning America and its relationship with the rest of the world. I don't know who the author is other than he lives in Pakistan and writes for a Pakistani paper. But the message he is seeing is that a white nation is considering nominating a black man for president when only 15% of the general population is black. This will do more for global democracy than all the 'wars of freedom' combined and will make a statement about America that no other nation can match at the present time.

It does us proud!

Obama on his way to win nomination

* Analyst says Obama was put in a ‘racial box’ but he overcame that

By Khalid Hasan

WASHINGTON: Barack Obama’s runaway victory in the South Carolina Democratic primary puts him well on his way to possibly winning his party’s nomination.

According to Carl Bernstein, one of the two reporters who exposed the Watergate scandal three decades ago, forcing President Nixon to resign, said in a comment to CNN that Hillary Clinton, who looked inevitable at one point was no longer inevitable. As of now, there is some momentum towards Obama and if he runs the kind of campaign he wants to run, he can be inspirational once again. Another commentator, Donna Brazile, said, “This was a very difficult campaign for Barack Obama. He had an uphill climb. The establishment of the Democratic party is clearly backing Hillary Clinton.” Brazile said the Clinton campaign put tremendous resources in South Carolina to beat Obama.

‘Racial box’: He was put in a “racial box” but he overcame that to expand his support. He clearly won a lot of white votes. “So this has been a good, great victory for Barack Obama,” she added. The total number of Democratic party delegates who will be present at the party’s nominating convention in Denver, Colorado, in August this year will be 4,409, of which the winner will have to take 2,205. This number can change between now and then, but not by much of a margin. The Republican delegates total 2,380, of which the winner will have to claim 1,191 votes.

Feb 5 forms what is called Super Tuesday when more than 20 states hold their primaries. By the next day, it would be reasonably clear who the most likely from among Clinton and Obama is to win the Democratic party’s nomination to run for president.
