Jay, Thanks for your interest...and your support!! Lot's of questions...TV and Movie screens will continue to play a role... new technologies often add flexibility or variety rather than obsoleting existing ones...Laptops complement desktops rather than obsoleting them... In the same way retinal displays will complement the increasingly sophisticated fabric of existing environments by extending capabilities for man machine interaction in very powerful and important ways...Way too much to say on this subject and will be happy to carry on when time allows...but suffice it to say for now that initially we're looking to achieve things that conventional displays just can't offer...One hint though...Movie screens don't display digital or electronic output except when one projects from an LCD-based projector...These digital projectors are very limited with respect to many performance characteristics...TI's DMD is a step in the right direction...but we think better things are possible with a whole different approach... As far as bypassing the retina...why bother?! its such a fabulously intricate wiring job that nature has done and it would be difficult (probably impossible to replicate)...all the visual system wants is a few photons... so electronic signal to photon is the only step you need to take right?
