Lucas, my point, and the author I quoted: Gigabit Ethernet could supplant ATM as a WAN technology. LAN Ether data is "more naturally" carried across the backbone, without insane protocol mapping.

From the customers perspective: "I am running Fast Ether all over the place, and want to carry Ether LAN to LAN on a high bandwidth link, why do I need ATM?"

MRVC is already selling "uplink modules" for the MegaSwitch 2 to allow gig links between LANS.
