Something to think about: 3dnow.net "Intel Executives Join Up with Cheech and Chong 12:26am EST Well, not really, but you would think so after reading PC Week's article about Intel's plans to provide low cost, high power systems. Ha! Their plan is to have Katmai systems start at the $2500+ range in the first quarter of '99, and then in the second quarter have them lowered to the cost of $1500-$2000. This winter I'll bet you'll be able to get an AMD-K6-2 450MHz system for around $1200 (nicely equipped), and by the end of next summer you'll hopefully be able to get a K7 one for around the same price. Of course these are my personal projections :). I just don't understand how or why Intel would design a new instruction set targetted for gamers and then offer it at such an unattractive price.
