Bruce: Right now, Maxam is working on a pilot recovery project that is expected to process 1000 tons of ore per day intially, I believe by this summer (although the system is being tested right now). Maxam may well be the first of the dirts in commercial production, but at very small quantities at first. Their plan is then to scale up to 10,000 tons per day. Given Mr. Runyon's recent good fortune, they may accelerate their recovery plans. They have an extremely well qualified consultant, Richard Hewlitt, who is working on the recovery aspect. They plan to use Mr. Hewlitt's recovery process. Jay Taylor has posted about Mr. Hewlitt's qualifications on the "emporer has no clothes" thread. Maxam also has, I believe, the only dirt that has been evaluated using standard fire assay.

So, IMO, while their strategy appears to have been focused on finding good dirt and getting it under their control, they are not neglecting recovery.

I see IPM's niche as bringing credibility to the whole group by the rigorous process they are undergoing to prove large-scale recovery. If it works and brings the big bucks into the dessert dirts, IPM will have been the catalyst.
