This 3GB deal with syquest is indeed a great deal... for consumers. But how good of a deal is it for stockholders? Wouldn't that just about destroy any profit margin on the Syjet line? Plus, tie ratios for these large removables are pretty low. Why not lower the price of the drive a little and still make the full profit on the disks? Maybe do like IOM and use rebates???

I think SYQT is a very risky investment at best, of course if you have some loose change this may not be the worst bet around either. Their deal with China should give a decent revenue stream for sometime to come, but without some truly impressive new products at better consumer price points, SYQT is treading in dangerous water.

At any rate, I think there is room for more than just IOM, but its important to remember that there doesn't have to be more room. IOM would like nothing more than to take SYQT's last customers. And I think they are trying very hard to do just that.

To all SYQT investors- Good luck and I hope this isn't a large part of your portfolio.

To all possible SYQT investors- Weigh the evidence of who is where in this industry very carefully. SYQT and IOM both have good points and bad points... some more so than others.

Chris

disclaimer- Yes, I am an IOM investor, though not the rabid variety that has been known to come over here and shake the tree. I would like to read any opinions of my first paragraph and see what you folks think about it.
