All,
I promised to keep you informed, but you were already informed. All I can say is that seeing the keynote live was one of the most memorable moments in my life.
Details you may not have heard, since they weren't mentioned here: the boos at the announcement that Billy Gates would be speaking to us from satellite, were so loud that his feelings have to have been hurt; Steve had is vest buttoned wrong --off by one button; though Explorer will be the default browser, we'll still have a choice to use any we like; there will be sharing of all patent info between the companies; MS will be creating other apps for the Mac; MS will buy at the market but I don't know as of what day and what price; MS can't sell the shares for three years.
The quality of the new board was impressive.
Jobs did not say he won't end up as Chair of the Board -- only that it won't be settled till the CEO position is.
This was a carefully choreographed, insanely great, moving speech with a lot of meat in it; not just fluff. The staggering sales of System 8 seem important.
As for the new Apple products, I commend the new LW to your attention. This is quite special. The quality of print knocks your socks off. It works on big enough paper to handle two pages side by side, with room for crops, bleeds at this size, double-sided printing, fast as a bunny, and the PRICE!! This is the printer I wish I had instead of the much more expensive HWP I bought last year.
Be is giving away their OS and apps for it, for a while, so everyone should be able to get a copy. It's slick, fast, intuitive with some very nice applications.
The report of the trade at 33 was an error that was corrected eventually, but our stock did so well!
Jobs certainly impressed as having a firm hand on the helm, good directionality, with a focus on dtp, high end graphics and creativity, as well as education. Bringing in expertise to the board and NOT saying he won't be Chairman, gives additional momentum to the positive future we're starting to believe, again. Reports of Apple's death have been premature.
