Nortel (Northern Telecom) Awarded Network Expansion Contract by Thrifty Call

DALLAS, March 2 /PRNewswire/ - Thrifty Call, Inc., a Texas-based
local/long distance, data, Internet, and enhanced services provider in the
wholesale and retail markets, has chosen Nortel (Northern Telecom) to provide
the switching infrastructure for its expanding network requirements. Under
the terms of the three-year, $US 24 million supply agreement, Nortel will
provide Thrifty Call with its DMS-500 Local/Long Distance switching systems.

our local service operations, and provides us with the increased capacity we
need to meet our customers' growing demands for data and enhanced services,''

Private Networking (VPN) and ISDN, which cater to customers with more
sophisticated telecommunications needs. In addition, Nortel's DMS-500 switches
will provide both local and long distance services, which, along with our ISDN
capabilities, are strategic investments enabling us to supply our customers
with truly integrated services.''
Thrifty Call is converting its existing Nortel DMS-250 SuperNode tandem
switching systems to the DMS-500 Local/Long Distance switching systems. To
date, Nortel and Thrifty Call have completed system conversions in Dallas,
Indianapolis and Atlanta. In addition, plans call for Thrifty Call to convert
their Seattle switch and install new switching systems in Houston and Orlando,
with other sites under review.
The Nortel DMS-500 Local/Long Distance switching system provides carriers
the ability to offer combined local and long-distance telecommunications
services to customers through a single, cost-effective switching platform. The
DMS-500 switching system offers a full range of features and services,
including Centrex-based services, Custom Local Area Signaling Service (CLASS),
Virtual Private Networking, Voice Messaging, Dialable Wideband Services, Basic
Rate ISDN, Primary Rate ISDN, with capability to support Advanced Intelligent
Network (AIN)- based services. The DMS-500's long distance capabilities
include N00, Private Virtual Networking, Dialable Wideband Services, as well
as enhancements to provide specialized carrier options and operator features.
