I wonder what the other problems in his life were that he referred to in his post. I would hope the guy has friends that can help him work through his current problems. Playing the pennies is a sure way to exacerbate his situation. He should go into cash (for the short term) until the current market correction finishes it's run. That will free up time that may be needed elsewhere.
