Re: ...he seems to think that military solutions are the ultimate answer, but history does not bear that premise out.

Well... as far as I'm concerned, I don't think that the Mideast endgame will be played by the military. I mean, Arab countries are much too weak to confront militarily the US-Israeli powerhouse. Remember: six months ago, the doomsayers were predicting WWIII if the US attacked Iraq, and what happened?? Nothing! US Abram tanks just rolled into Baghdad and the US staff settled in Hotel Rashid...

Today, the same doomsayers are predicting WWIII if the US turns to Iran... or Syria... or if Sharon blows up Arafat's compound... and guess what? Nothing's gonna happen --nothing!

I'm afraid the crisis that's gonna ultimately unlock the Mideast conflict(s) will be a civil war of sorts in the US. Eventually, the Israelization of the US's foreign policy will creep into the US's domestic fabric... Since the US is a much less homogeneous soctiety than Israel, there'll be much more resistance to the Judeocons' attempt to Israelize the US homeland. Again, we can think of the French-Algerian war as the mirror image of what lies ahead in the US/Israeli-Arab conflict....
